Stepping into another pair of shoes.

I am thinking of adding an extra scene to Extermination after taking the Enhanced CCW course.           Elaura suffers from anxiety after the massacre, but fights to push past it. She recognizes the underlying reason and still chooses to press on. Like all of us, she has her coping mechanisms, and has to manage herself.  This is something I deal with myself, even though I don't have a major event causing my anxiety I do still find ways to work past situations that trigger.         Like I mentioned before, I took the Enhanced Concealed Carry class and you are required to shoot a certain number of supervised rounds to be eligible for the permit and the range we went through requires a 20 round qualification. If you've never fired a gun before, there is a moment of anticipation much like opening a can of  Pillsbury biscuits. You know the ones I mean...

The Oasis

Along with a photo to accompany it. Now mind you that this is very much not an Egyptian oil lamp. Please keep in mind that this image did fuel the scene you are about to enjoy!  As for now, do please keep in mind that much of the writing snippets I will be sharing will be from earlier drafts which often need more editing and will be adjusted at a later date. Do be kind.                                              However inviting the oasis had been, the sun dipping below the dunes had brought with it an eerie feeling that none in our small party could explain. This was the last stop before we found the sorcerer of Toth and I was eager to regain the memories that were rightfully mine. “We camp here for the night.” Menefer announced, busying himself with lo...

Short story: Cracks on the Ice

She stood out there for more than an hour as the snow fell round her. Her pleas would go unanswered of the skies. His ship would not gain the harbor again. It would never make a wharf or follow the lighthouse either. “Samuel, she's been out there long enough. Bring her in. This foolishness will end.” My father commanded, his hand on my shoulder. I nodded, thinking I should have fetched her a time ago. Fathers hand released and I was on my way. Snow crunched ‘neath my feet with each step top the silent shore. I brushed a small collection of snowflakes from the blanket over my arm, a fruitless attempt to warm the material I would wrap round her shoulders. I wanted to curse him for this. That jackal had filled her head with such fantasies that she actually believed he might return. Even as I thought it, I reproved myself. Even I had seen with eyes clear of guile how dearly he loved her. How desperate he was to prove himself worthy of her and to ma...

Extermination of an Empire

With little time on hand, I find my writing to be progressing very slowly. The holidays are around the corner and I am working 12 hour graveyard shifts. That being said, I have still found time on my breaks to get the first two chapters rewritten!! While my progress may not be as fast as I would like, it is still progress. In that spirit, I thought it might be fun to share a little tidbit with you. As I go through this rewrite, I am going to be celebrating every chapter being finished by sharing a snippet of each with all of you. Mind you the snippets you find here may not 100% match the finished book, but you will get to see the evolution of the writing. Since I have finished the first two chapters, It may be appropriate to share two snippets with you. One from each chapter. Chapter 1: (First Paragraph) "Crystals of sugar and flour dust danced a ballet above our heads in the controlled chaos of the kitchen.  Cooks and bakers dashed past one another, escaping collision be...
